It was Christmas morning, and that meant it was time for presents! I couldn’t wait! We had already opened our stockings, but now it was time for our presents from Mommy and Daddy! Mommy and Daddy always showered us in presents! I couldn’t wait to see what they had gotten for us.

Soon enough, Mommy had arrived with a basket full of presents. She kept a blanket over it, so we wouldn’t be tempted to peek at our gifts.
“I know we usually get you a lot of presents, but I figured we would only get you one present this year. But, this present will be something you really wanted.
I was more excited than ever. If this present was going to be better than a lot of presents, it was going to be amazing.

Mommy reached inside.

“It’s…wireless headphones for Sandy!” Mommy announced.

“Wow!” Sandy exclaimed. “These are awesome!”
I gasped. If I could get something like that, I would be so happy.

“Next, here’s an iPad for Chip!” Mommy announced. Chip was overjoyed.

The gift giving went on. Next up was a stuffed animal for Cali.

“I love it so much!” Cali shouted.
I was starting to get bored. I really wanted to get my gift now. But I wasn’t next.

Cherie got a lovely bullet journal.

Cloud got a vintage comic book.

And Cherry got a gift card.

Finally, it was my turn. Mommy handed me a lipstick.
“Here’s a lipstick from that expensive makeup company you’ve always wanted something from. Do you like it?” Mommy asked.

I sighed. “Thanks,” I mumbled. I wasn’t happy. Sure I had wanted some makeup, but I didn’t like the makeup that much. I really wanted something better.

As my siblings went about playing with their toys, I only felt disappointed. I wanted something better.
Later that night…

Mommy and Daddy gathered us together for scripture study. I was still thinking about my present.
Mommy and Daddy read Luke 2. But there were 2 verses that really stuck out to me:
“10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
I thought about what Christmas was really about. I was about Christ’s birth, not getting presents.

I decided that just for today, I wouldn’t think about presents. Even if I didn’t really get what I wanted, I wouldn’t spend today thinking about that. Today was Christ’s day, not mine.
However, tomorrow will be spent making my birthday wishlist, and I’ll make sure that I get what I really want.
